Good design is a lot like clear thinking made visual.

Smart design, great craftsmanship, hand drawn type, loving what I teach and teaching what I love, attention to detail, & odd numbers.
Ursula Design is a visual communications agency specializing in print and web based graphic design and illustration. I am Ursula Bryant, a full time professor and freelance designer. I have worked in the marketing, print, and graphic design industry for more than 10 years. I am an assistant professor of graphic design at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA and I work as a freelance graphic designer for my personal graphic design business, Ursula Design.
I have worked for clients such as C.L. Lewis & Company, English Construction, Virginia Career Education Foundation, Region 2000, City of Lynchburg, and international businesses such as EIM Controls, M/A-COM, Bernhardt, Martha Stewart, Vaughan Furniture, and Patrick Henry Family Services.
Prior to teaching, I received my bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from James Madison University in 2001 and worked as a graphic design professional for Blair Marketing as a designer. In 2007 I earned my master of fine arts in graphic design from East Tennessee State University where my research interest included the study of human reaction, tolerance, perception and social stigmas through visual communication. My Addy award winning and published designs, paintings, and multi-media work have been recognized by the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington DC and exhibited in many solo and juried shows.
I have 12 years of experience working with the Adobe Creative Suite software applications. The bar chart below indicates my active level of usage for the following programs/skills.
My work showcases a variety of identity, collateral, illustration, photograhy, and web.
By day, I am a full-time professor of graphic design at Lynchburg College and by night a graphic design freelancer for my personal business, Ursula Design. I am also available to speak on a variety of topics associated with design theory and practice, including the history of design, typography, design curriculum, and design activism.
Web Design: I design web sites with the same verve and energy that I apply to corporate identities. Web sites, HTML emails, and web applications all resonate with my knowledge of the habits, perceptions and expectations of the end user. One of the most rewarding aspects of web design is the interactivity and feedback mechanisms of the web which offer a rich canvas to carry out the mission.
Graphic Design: I work with a vast range of printed formats to develop corporate identities, logos, brochures, annual reports, stationery suites, ad campaigns, sales materials, packaging, brand development, folders and direct mail campaigns. When I work for you, my graphic design comes with a healthy dose of advice, strategy and execution that helps take your efforts to the next level.
I offer professional critiques, and I am available to speak on a variety of topics associated with the field of graphic design.
